A ROMANTIC gesture has taken Mount Gambier/Berrin residents by storm last week with a sign highlighting Michelle Long’s wedding anniversary.

Ms Long and her husband Daniel tied the knot three years ago in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The couple first met in 2016 at a friend’s wedding before meeting again in Nelson.

Speaking with The Border Watch, Ms Long said the couple slowly kept meeting up for coffee and small dates due to both having children from previous relationships.

“We did not want to introduce that too quickly so we would catch up late and at first I just made him wait, I was not ready for relationships but one thing led to another and we got married three years ago at the Apple Farm,” Ms Long said.

“We booked the date with the venue but we had to change our date to the 28th because of double booking and we were really lucky because we decided to just go with whatever the rules were going to be.

“We just wanted to get married.”

Ms Long said she was “shocked” when she saw the digital sign wishing her a happy anniversary stationed on Pick Avenue and almost drove past it if it was not for her son pointing it out to her.

“At first I thought it was cute because I saw the smiling face and the love heart but then I saw my name,” she said.

“I was so shocked and happy.”

She said outside of holding hands in public, her husband had never been so open about their relationship.

“We post things on social media and things like that but he has never done anything like this before,” Ms Long siad.

“I really appreciate him doing something like this, I do not think words can describe how special that made me feel and it is really nice to know our relationship is so strong and that he would go to the lengths like this to do something so beautiful.”

Ms Long also responded to the community outpour of support, saying there were many people commenting and responding to wish them a happy anniversary.
