Taste comes back

TOP FOOD: Taste the Limestone Coast will return next year.

AFTER a three-year hiatus Taste the Limestone Coast will return next year.

The popular festival recently received a $20,000 funding boost from the State Government during its whirlwind tour of the region this week.

Taste the Limestone Coast was previously popular for showcasing the region’s food and wine in a family-friendly manner.

The event was initially cancelled in 2021 due to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prior to Covid-19 the event, which is hosted by the Lions Club of Naracoorte, would attract more than 20,000 visitors to the region including many from interstate.

Now, the event will return to Naracoorte in 2024 as a one-day event while still showcasing local food, wine and live music.

The State Government funding is expected to enable the organising committee and local volunteers to run the event – including the provision of marquees, fencing and security staff.

Lions Club of Naracoorte president Graeme Wright said he was thrilled to receive support for the event.

“The Lions Club of Naracoorte, along with its committee, is delighted to once again be able to showcase all the wonderful food, award winning wines, music and entertainment the Limestone Coast has to offer,” Mr Wright said.

“To be able to hold events especially in regional South Australia is vital for smaller communities such as Naracoorte.

“It will be wonderful to welcome many visitors to our area and see the flow on benefits to the local economy.”

Member for MacKillop Nick McBride said he understood how important the event was for Naracoorte and surrounding areas.

“This food, wine and music festival has been a popular event on the tourism calendar and has been greatly missed by the local community,” Mr McBride said.

“I am so pleased that funding has been made available which will enable this event to take place in 2024.

“It draws thousands of people into the town and allows them to enjoy our wonderful local food and wine.”

Mr McBride said the flow-on effects of such a popular event was visitors spending more time in the region equalling to more tourism spending and a stronger economy.

Taste the Limestone Coast will be held in Naracoorte on February 10 next year with the Naracoorte Cup the following day.
