The District Council of Grant is calling on community to nominate someone great for their 2024 Citizen of the Year Awards.
Mayor Kylie Boston said the awards were an opportunity to say thank you to the quiet achievers.
“It is important that individuals and groups are celebrated for their valued commitment as our community would not be as strong and vibrant as it is without their efforts,” she said.
There are several award categories and Ms Boston encouraged people to make a nomination.
“If you know an individual, organisation, group or event that has made a meaningful contribution in our community, I encourage you to show your appreciation by nominating them for a Citizen of the Year Award.”
2023 Citizen of the Year winner Sheryl Tiegesser said it was an honour to be recognised and people should think about who they would like to nominate.
“To be nominated and awarded Citizen of the Year was an awesome experience and one I will always be honoured by,” she said.
“So if you know of someone who you believe could be the next Citizen of the Year, please nominate them for this fantastic award and recognition.”
Award nominees and winners will be celebrated and presented with certificates at a private Australia Day Citizen of the Year Awards event on Friday 26 January 2024.
Nominations are open for the following categories:
• Young Citizen of the Year (persons between 16 and 30 years of age on 26 January 2024)
• Citizen of the Year (persons 30 years of age or older on 26 January 2024)
• Community Event of the Year (events staged during 2023)
• Active Citizenship (delivery of outstanding work or for an event or cause staged during 2023)
Nominations close at 5pm Friday, November 17, and can be made online via citizenoftheyear.com.au, directed to the District Council of Grant at 324 Commercial Street West / PO Box 724, Mount Gambier SA 5290 or emailed to info@dcgrant.sa.gov.au.
