Mount Gambier/ Berrin and Adelaide based rock band Stokes have recently been selected as finalists for two categories for the South Australian Music Awards.

The band have been nominated for an Industry Voted Award for Best Regional Artist and a People’s Choice Award for Best Rock Artist.

Guitarist and vocalist Mikey McInerney, bassist Jack Lockwood and drummer Jimmy Wallace make up the trio and have had huge success this year, playing at various venues and festivals across the state.

Earlier this year the band were selected to play at the Beer & BBQ festival in Adelaide, headlined by Aussie artists The Living End, Magic Dirt and Dune Rats.

Mr McInerney said that the experience was their biggest show to date.

“That festival was unlike anything else we’ve done,” he said.

Continuing this year’s achievements, Mr McInerney said the band was stoked to receive the news that they had been selected as finalists, especially originating from a regional town.

“It’s pretty awesome to think that we’re being the representatives of Mount Gambier throughout this. It feels pretty special,” he said.

The band aren’t slowing down anytime soon and hope to later this year jump into the studio and record some new music.

Voting is open until October 22, and the band will head to Adelaide for the SA Music Awards presentation night in November.
