TUCKED away at the Royal Adelaide Show was Mount Gambier/Berrin born Glenn Klaassens selling his homemade beef jerky.

Mr Klaassens first began his journey into creating and selling the tasty treat when he completed his chefs apprenticeship at 21-years-old.

“I did a four year apprenticeship but got out of the industry and decided to work in Perth in the mines,” Mr Klaassens said.

“When Covid-19 hit I started making beef jerky for friends and family before launching the business.”

He said the process was a technical one between the cutting of the meat, marinating it and putting it into tumblers before finally putting it onto the dehydrator for about 10 hours.

“The jerky business is a good place to be, you get to go to a lot of shows and we are planning on doing all of the country shows this year,” Mr Klaassens said.

“I never thought we would end up at the Royal Adelaide Show selling the jerky but we are going to be heading to the Mount Gambier Show this year as well as the Mount Gambier Medieval Fair next year.”

He said he also attended the Barossa Medieval Fair but other events such as rodeos were also great to attend.
