MIL Lel Memorial Park committee members are reminding the public vehicles are not permitted on the property following a string of motorbikes damaging the newly seeded grass area.

A number of motorbikes were reportedly riding on the newly sown grass area, leaving marks and damage.

Mil Lel Memorial Park secretary Janet Phillips said the area was open for the community to walk on the area but vehicles were not permitted.

“We are fine with people walking their dogs but not vehicles running around out on the land,” Ms Phillips said.

“We try to keep it nice and safe and clean because people do hire it out and that means if people go and do these sorts of things, we have then got to fix it up before people come in and hire it in case they fall over due to it being uneven.”

Ms Phillips said the motorbikes riding on the grass could have been miscommunication or new people in the area but reminded the public it was not permitted.

“This ground is privately owned by the park committee and it is not council land,” she said.

“We need to keep the area safe for the community to have functions here and it is disappointing that things like this have happened.”

Moving forward, Ms Phillips encouraged the community to call the committee if they wish to hire the grounds but remained firm no vehicles were permitted past the gated area.

“We have never had any real issues apart from this month,” she said.

“We had our gas bottle stolen recently and now this so it is a lot in a small amount of time.”

Despite the difficulties the committee has faced, Ms Phillips said they were looking forward to the up-and-coming Mil Lel Show scheduled for October 7.
