OPENING hours at the Mount Gambier Library will change slightly of the next three months to better serve the community.

Library manager Georgina Davison said the temporary change to Sunday’s opening hours would better reflect how the community uses the service.

“We have noticed on a Sunday morning the first few hours are really dead, not many people come in, and then at 1pm we’re kicking people out,” she said.

So from Sunday, May 7, on a three months trial the Sunday hours will change to 10am to 2pm.

Ms Davison assured the hours were not reducing, but just changing as a reflection of how the library has been used.

“We have to kick people out when we’re closing at 1pm and then you see people coming to the door while were packing up, and I hate that, you want to be open for people all the time,” she said.

“These will be more appropriate hours hopefully.”

Over the next three months Ms Davison said library staff would be collecting feedback to determine if the change would become permanent.

“During the whole time we’re going to be taking feedback from people to see if they want it open later or open earlier,” she said.

At this stage, Ms Davison said Sunday’s hours would be the ones only changing.

After the trial, feedback will be complied to see what the community thought and if the hours will change permanently.
