THE end of April will see the return of the Twisted Threads’ Autumn Threads exhibition, now bigger and better than ever.

Twisted Threads member Julianne Woodruff said this year’s exhibition would have “almost every textile, art or craft you could think of” available to the public.

Some of the textiles on display will include knitting and crocheting, upcycling, lace weaving and a variety of looms on display for demonstrations.

“Last year we had the spinning and then all the wool which had been spun was knitted into a beanie by one of our members,” Ms Woodruff said.

“We hope to have a community piece made on the weaving loom so one of our members can make it into something.”

Ms Woodruff said the exhibition was a great opportunity to showcase the local talent of the region as well as having a broad selection of textiles available for purchase.

She said all profits from the exhibition would be given back to Mount Gambier In Home Hospice Care once again as well as the Mount Gambier Library.

She also said the group was grateful for the Mount Gambier City Council allowing them to take space in the City Hall.

“We are very grateful to the City Council for sponsoring us to have this space for the four days because we don’t fit anywhere else now,” she said.

“It feels great, it’s terrific that we are still doing this and I think it’s our 13th year now as the first time we did it was when the new library was being built.”

She said the exhibition was a great opportunity for people to stock up on winter wear as the Limestone Coast moves closer to colder weather.

“People seem to know now because we have been calling it Autumn Threads, it’s the start of winter so you would want to start thinking about winter woolies,” she said.

“People look through their wardrobes and wonder if they need a new scarf or a beanie so there are going to be some beautiful things to do up your winter wardrobe.

“There is a bit of something for everyone, so don’t just think of granny’s cardigans.”

Ms Woodruff said the exhibition had the potential to grow into a larger event as time went on and said the group hoped to host more demonstrations for the next event.

“I hope we will have more demonstrations and more things people can actually try,” she said.

“It would be good to have more things for sale so people can do more things themselves.

“These are just dreams off the top of my head but I do think we are working towards more demonstrations.”

The Twisted Threads’ Autumn Threads exhibition will take place at City Hall from April 27 to April 30.
