A NUMBER of playgrounds around the Grant District Council townships have had a face-lift.

The $250,000 project has improved playgrounds at Port MacDonnell, Carpenter Rocks, Kongorong, Nene Valley, Donovans and Blackfellow Caves.

Grant District Council Mayor Kylie Boston said the playgrounds identified was part of the local roads and community infrastructure program.

“We targeted playgrounds that were nearing its useful lives, such as the Carpenter Rocks playground, and there was an incident in adjusting one of the swing sets where it was broken,” Ms Boston said.

“This is a reflection of its useful life.

“We replaced the swing set and what we are hoping to do is an approved series of project from this funding.”

Ms Boston said many playgrounds needed more renewal than others but remained a priority after a series of community consultation sessions held last year.

“After council undertook a series of community consultation, we found playgrounds was on almost everyone’s list as a priority,” she said.

Playgrounds will also be a major focus for the up-and-coming Inner Townships Masterplan which aims to “identify the scale and size” of playground inclusivity specifically where population growth is occurring.

There will also be a strategy for ongoing advancement and renewal of playgrounds in the future.
