PLANT donations are now welcome at the Salvation Army Thrift Shop to try and entice people to begin growing their own gardens.

Thrift Shop manager Shauna Wood put the callout on social media early last week for plants, seeds, bulbs and pot plant donations.

“We are hoping by doing this it may encourage people to start their own garden which could then give them some fresh produce to go towards their dinners,” Ms Wood said.

“The idea for this came as the team was thinking of different ideas to bring into the store because there is so much more we can do and selling plants is something we have not explored before.”

She said since putting the call out there had been a number of donations to the thrift store and many plants have also been sold.

“We are looking for any kind of plants and we would be really grateful for more plant donations because they make people happy and lift moods and people love having them in the store and we love seeing them go out to happy homes,” she said.

“It also increases and encourages the importance of growing your own food because people do get a lot of satisfaction from it and a lot of people come into our store with excess produce from their garden which we give away so it creates that circular economy.”
