Women in Business and Regional Development (WiBRD) Limestone Coast will host an International Women’s Day breakfast celebrating the powerful women in the region.

WiBRD deputy chair Brittany Shelton said it would be a morning of empowerment and inspiration for local women.

Ms Shelton said the event would be tied in with the Adelaide event, giving regional women the same opportunities as those in the city.

On the morning, WiBRD will live stream the Adelaide IWD breakfast hosted by Penny Wong with guest speaker Ambassador Caroline Kennedy, US Ambassador to Australia.

“We live stream the Adelaide event to give our women locally the opportunity to have a look at the amazing speakers,” she said.

Once the live stream has ended, Ms Shelton said attendees would hear from a panel of local women who worked in typically male dominated fields.

“One of our five key strategies is to celebrate local women so this event is one of those opportunities for us to do that,” she said.

Sitting on the panel this year will be Liz McKinnon, Rhiannon Mathers and Ebony Cunningham.

“The reason why we’ve picked these three women in particular is because they’re all in male dominated fields,” Ms Shelton said.

“We thought they would be the perfect panel of women for us to celebrate and ask them some interesting questions, which are going to be aligned to our theme for the year.”

Last year Ms McKinnon was the first person appointed to the role of the South Australian cross border commissioner and has worked in the forestry sector, Ms Mathers is the process improvement manager at Timberlink and has a background in chemical engineering, and Ms Cunningham is the founder and managing director of Brite Legal.

Ms Shelton said this event would be a chance for women to celebrate themselves and their achievements, and not let them slip by the wayside.

“Women are less likely to celebrate their achievements than men,” she said.

“This gives us a platform to recognise that even just locally in our region we have some really amazing women who have done some really amazing things.”

The WiBRD breakfast will be held on Friday, March 10, information and tickets are available at wibrd.org.au
