UPGRADES for the Mount Gambier Hospital are on track to be delivered as planned.

Ahead of the 2022 state elections, Labor promised $24 million in health funding to Mount Gambier which included upgrades to the emergency department and improvements to the mental health unit.

The funding was confirmed in the state budget in June last year and Independent Mount Gambier MP Troy Bell said and everything is “progressing as planned” behind the scenes.

“I understand people may be unhappy with certain aspects in terms of the election commitments, but they’ve all been approved in the state budget,” Mr Bell said.

“There’s a working party developing that now, but the money is secured.

“There’s always improvements that can be made and that’s what we’re continually working towards. ”

Mr Bell said he recently met with one of Health Minister Chris Picton’s advisers to discuss a range of issues regarding health in the region.

As part of that, he said Mr Picton had invited him, Federal Member for Barker Tony Pasin and Limestone Coast Local Health Network chair Grant King to Adelaide in February to discuss “further opportunities for the Mount Gambier Hospital” and cancer treatment in the region.
