A PORT MacDonnell artist with a love of nature is preparing for a solo exhibition featuring birds, wildlife and local flora.

Artist Heather McLean has been putting the final touch ups on recent paintings in preparation for her latest exhibition.

Flora and Fauna, which will be displayed in the Port MacDonnell Community Complex Gallery, has a selection of Ms McLean’s work over the last few years.

Ms McLean said she thought her last exhibition would be the final one she ever did, but wanted to have another go at it when the opportunity came up.

“I just decided last year that no, I will have another one,” she said.

“I’ll be 78 this year, but I’ll never stop painting – I’ve still got time.”

Ms McLean said she was not planning to have a “grand opening” for Flora and Fauna as there would be too much to organise when her main focus is just filling the gallery with work.

She also said she just hopes to see some people in the Gallery enjoying some local art.

“I just hope they like the work,” she said.

“I’ve got enough paintings at home to spread out – I’ve got a few of boats and things like that, so I’ll keep them on one side if I need to fill the room up.

“I definitely will fill the room, even if I put some older works in.”

Flora and Fauna will be displayed in the Gallery from Thursday, February 2 until Thursday, March 30.
