GORDON Education Centre teacher Ashleigh Calleja has been named the winner of this year’s Inclusive Teacher of the Year Award.

Ms Calleja was announced as a finalist in the awards back in September and said at the time she was overwhelmed just to be recognised.

She was officially declared the winner at the Public Education Awards in Adelaide last weekend, along with educators across a range of categories.

Gordon principal Lisa Thomas said she feels very proud and privileged to have Ms Calleja on her team.

“Ashleigh is one of the most amazing, compassionate teachers,” she said.

“She has the utmost passion for supporting her students, supporting her families and making sure they get the best from their time at Gordon Education Centre.

“We love her dearly and hope she stays to support our students for many years to come.”

Ms Thomas said she greatly admires the work Ms Calleja does with her students across the state, not just onsite in Mount Gambier.

Minister for Education, Skills and Training Blair Boyer congratulated Ms Calleja on her achievement.

“Teachers and educators play a critical role in our state and are positively changing the lives of children and young people, which is why it’s important they are recognised for their significant contributions,” he said.
