Locals pay respects to Cassius

FOR CASSIUS: People paid their respects to Cassius in a vigil on Wednesday night.

A candlelight vigil was held on Wednesday night in honour of teenager Cassius Turvey.

The 15-year-old Cassius Turvey died in Perth, WA, last month.

It is alleged Cassius was walking home from school with friends on October 13, when they were approached by a man, who attacked Cassius with a metal pole.

His death has prompted a wave of support and outcry, with rallies and vigils held across Australia.

Pangula Mannamurna hosted a candlelight vigil for the teen on Wednesday night, to pay their respects and show their support for Cassius’ family.

Caitlyn Steed organised the event.

“I’ve organised this today, because I think it’s really important that our community are aware of Cassius Turvey. I think there’s a lot of people in this community that can relate, that do have Black children,” she said.

“We really needed to get to come together as a community to raise awareness about this and to support Cassius’ mother.

“I just thought it was important for our community to get behind Cassius and his mother, and just to come together and pay our respects.

“I want to help the community understand why this is so important.”
