THE community will be able to bid on a range of goods and services as the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier West prepares to hold its third auction.

Since Covid wreaked havoc on its normal fundraising endeavours in 2020, the Rotary club looked to community auctions to keep raising money to fund community projects.

Now in its third year, the auction has been slowly building with more and more donors getting around the cause.

Rotary Club of Mount Gambier West vice president and auctioneer for the evening David Burt said the plan is to just get people out on the night to have a good time.

“You don’t have to buy anything, just come along and have a good time,” Mr Burt said.

“I’ll still sell you a raffle ticket if you don’t feel like bidding on some of the items.”

A number of items including paintings by local artists and an AFL game ball will be going under the hammer, alongside services like a day’s worth of chauffeuring.

“Last time she offered that service, it took a group of four ladies on a winery and dinner tour and they had the most wonderful time,” he said.

“We do have some electrical work you can bid on.

“Probably the most interesting item is our last item for the night, which is the castration of a large animal.”

Mr Burt said all proceeds from the auction will be funnelled straight back into the Mount Gambier community, going to local projects, enterprises and charitable organisations.

“We, as an organisation and personally, are enormously thankful for the people and businesses that have donated to the auction,” he said.

“People are often being hit up for stuff and we’re just thrilled people have been kind enough to donate this.

“We’ll have a good night, we’ll have a very good laugh.”

The auction will be held in the Mount Gambier RSL’s function room from 6:30pm on Tuesday, November 8.
