Vintage cars tour Mount Gambier

Brian and Diana Triplow with their 1938 Morris 8/40 Tourer.

It was like a trip through time on Sunday, with a number of old cars lining up in the city.

They were in town for the Mount Gambier Veteran and Vintage Car Club ‘Not Australia Day’ Tour, which saw cars from all over the state and across the border come and join in the fun.

Normally held on the Australia Day weekend, Covid disrupted the event which has been held since 1965 at that time.

The tour attracted more than 50 entrants with vehicles ranging in age from 1925 ( Dodge Buckboard) up to almost modern.

American, French, German and Australian makes represented in the list and there were sedans, convertibles, roadsters and a couple of beautiful trucks amongst the entry.

Participants came from intrastate and interstate Clubs with Strathalbyn, Milang, Goolwa, Adelaide, Riverland, Portland, Casterton and Hamilton joining many local members.

Entrants will be visited a local Truck repair shop on Friday, the Kalangadoo Farmers Market, the Kalangadoo Railway Station Museum on Saturday morning and then a public display on Sunday morning at Lady Nelson Discovery Centre before leaving for a tour of a Mount Gambier Stone quarry.

A BBQ lunch and presentation of Shannon’s Insurance Awards topped of a great weekend.

Awards presented are fun awards and voted upon by Tour entrants – except for the first three awards.
