Local Covid numbers wrong by more than 60,000

WAY OFF: The published numbers on the SA Health Covid-19 heatmap were more than 800 per cent off the actual numbers.

INCORRECT SA Health data caused confusion this week as Covid-19 case numbers were massively inflated on the department’s covid cases location ‘Heatmap’.

The SA Health ‘Heatmap’ provides information on the numbers of active and total cases by local government area (LGA) and is regularly updated.

SA Health listed 3183 active cases in the Mount Gambier City Council area, and almost 67,830 total cases on the Heatmap on Thursday.

When the Border Watch enquired to check the numbers, SA Health first confirmed they were correct, before later saying the numbers had been compiled incorrectly.

The numbers were actually found to be 303 active cases in Mount Gambier with a total of 7,617 confirmed cases.

It is unclear how the numbers were incorrectly input into the system.
