FOLLOWING a successful inaugural event last year, the Mount Gambier Show Society Winter Market will return.

More than 20 vendors have already booked their spot at the popular one-night event with more spaces available.

The market has grown, with the society deciding to make the event a yearly feature on the calendar and use the showgrounds to the best of its ability.

It first began after a Fringe Festival event last year, and show society vice president Tammy Flier said hosting the market was a good opportunity for the society to get back on its feet, with them unable to host events in 2020 due to Covid-19.

“When we first started hosting markets, the traders thought it was great and we wanted to see how a market during winter would go,” Ms Flier said.

“It was a massive success and we were so happy to have the facilities available and encourage a lot of crafters, traders and more to have the opportunity to sell during the wet weather.”

Ms Flier said there had been a number of other events recently held at the showgrounds, with those funds going towards maintenance of the grounds.

Regular market vendor and Picnic in the Woods business owner Laura Wood said she was thrilled to participate in the Winter Market for the second year in a row.

“The markets here are some of the best that I have been to since starting my catering business and it is great the Winter Market is making a comeback,” Ms Wood said.

“It is another opportunity for small businesses like mine to just get out and about.”

Vendors are able to secure spots for the up and coming market by contacting the society or visiting its website.

The market will be held on July 10 from 9am until 1pm.
