McBride’s elevation

POLITICAL POSITION: Member for MacKillop Nick McBride has secured the position of the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Development.

MEMBER for MacKillop Nick McBride has been appointed the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Engagement.

As the Secretary, he said he will advocate for the regional areas and ensure their voices are heard by the Opposition.

“I am hoping my position is able to give me a strong understanding of what the regions need and are looking for in a voice in the Opposition,” Mr McBride said.

“The fact I am more connected to the regions after the election allows me to be a strong advocate and give good, strong direction for the regions.

“The new direction of the Liberal Party and our revitalised focus on the regions means I will work hand-in-glove with four shadow ministers who share rural portfolio responsibilities.”

Mr McBride said since the announcement he had received congratulations from members of the community.

“I do work the regions well, particularly in the MacKillop electorate and I understand the issues and concerns,” he said.

“I will also use my new platform to reach out to all regional communities, dedicating my time to meaningful engagement and treating each person as if they lived in my own electorate.”

Mr McBride said he would continue to advocate for better hospital and health services, roads and infrastructure.

“We also need to make sure education infrastructure is up to speed and the regional population is good with housing to support it,” he said.

“I want regional South Australians to know I will fight for them and I will keep a close eye on the Labor Party to ensure they deliver on every promise and don’t neglect the regions like they have so many times before.”

The Parliament will sit for the first time under the newly elected government next Tuesday.
