A NEW $7m drama and arts space, three new classrooms and a science lab have been officially opened at Grant High School with the Prawulu centre up and running.

Former Minister for Education John Gardner opened the centre earlier this month and he was given a warm welcome by a small cohort of students and teachers.

Funding for the new centre was received from the State Government early in 2020 allowing increased space for performing arts students.

School principal Fleur Roachock said the new facility met every need staff and students could have hoped for.

“It gives us the opportunity to really focus on the performing arts which are dear to our hearts but also room to have Year 7 students in some lovely learning spaces,” Ms Roachock said.

“We love the windows and the access to the outdoor area and it is really nice for the children to be able to feel like they are part of nature and the gardens that have gone with it are wonderful as well.

“We are really pleased with how it has worked out because it has been a great project.”

Ms Roachock said the next step for the school’s enhancement was a new gymnasium.

She said the new gym would allow for a fully usable indoor netball court while also creating a safer facility.

“The new gym will be the icing on the cake with the newly opened building and complements everything we have done within the last five to six years.”

Mr Gardner said he was proud of the work being done at the local high school and the new facilities were state of the art.

“The kids are going to be enjoying these facilities for decades to come and it is all part of ensuring we have got world class educational facilities to go with the world class teaching and learning that is going on inside them,” Mr Gardner said.
