Service road won’t go to Brown Street

A PROPOSAL by Wattle Range Council to connect one of Mount Burr’s service roads to Brown Street has been dumped following objections from residents.

Council will soon be upgrading the service road adjacent to the former mill and when the Department of Infrastructure and Transport asked Council to reduce the number of access points to the service road from the main road, Thomas Drive, Council drew up an alternative plan taking one access point from the main road and instead having it access from Brown Street.

During public consultation – which mainly focused on tree removal to enable the service roads to be upgraded – comments from two residents were also received in relation to the plan to connect to Brown Street.

The resident said an access point to the service road from Brown Street would unintentionally create a short cut through to Thomas Drive and by doing so create an increased safety risk for residents in the area of the service road, particularly children.

As a result, Council’s staff have removed from its plans the extension of the service road to Brown Street.
