TRYING OUT SOME NEW ADDITIONS TO MILLICENT'S DOG PARK: Wattle Range Council Senior General Inspector Tim Wilson with his black Labrador, River.

NEW additions at Millicent’s dog park are aimed at providing some interest for its four legged clients.

Behind Millicent’s museum, the dog park has been taking shape over the last few months and will continue to develop this year.

A flat fenced area, the park is designed to allow owners to exercise their dogs off their leash in a safe, contained environment and it now has some added interest to entertain dogs including a sand pit, a tunnel, ramp and some trees, while landscaping on the outside has also enhanced the amenity.

Wattle Range Council built the dog park next to the museum’s large parking area near Towers Road with the target being travellers who use the parking area as it is large enough to accommodate caravans and provides a dump point.

“It’s more aimed at travellers who park at the museum, empty their vans and then they can give their dogs a bit of a run around too,” said Council’s Senior General Inspector Tim Wilson.

“But we’re finding local residents are using it for their dogs too, more than we expected really.”

After Mr Wilson spoke with some of these residents, ideas for the park’s improvement are coming to fruition with more planned.

“It’s a relatively small area so we don’t want to fill it up too much but there will be a small shelter and bench added to the park to give owners an area where they can sit and watch their dogs,” Mr Wilson said.
