Road repairs part of big Council works program

ALMOST $5 million is planned to be spent on roads under the jurisdiction of Wattle Range Council as part of a record $12 million works program for the current financial year.

Roads are part of more than 150 projects which form the Council’s works program which was detailed in a report to Council’s December meeting.

The report showed resheeting work has already been completed on several unsealed roads in the Council area, including Bakers Road and Pinchgut Road in the Millicent area, and Peach Tree Road and Picaninny Lane in the Thornlea area.

Resheeting work is also underway on Shell Grit Road near Millicent and Reedy Lagoon Road in the Wattle Range area.

Other unsealed roads scheduled to be resheeted include Agars, Cases and Dow roads at Glencoe; Andrews Street and Smiths Lane at Rendelsham; Bateman’s Lane in the Wattle Range area; Botts Road at Tri Hi; Carthew, Poonada, Stony, Whitty and Considine roads at Tantanoola; Cullens Road at Southend; McArthurs Summer Track at Furner; Roden Lane and Winter Road at Penola; Rogers Road at Kalangadoo; and Sunnymeade Road at Mount McIntyre.

A 120 metre section of Wattle Road to Hakea Drive in the rural living areas of Millicent will be upgraded from a sand track to a gravel road.

Some unsealed township roads will be sealed, Millicent’s Lake McIntyre’s car park and internal roadway is planned to be sealed, and Beachport’s BMX track has been resurfaced.

Other sealed roads that are being resealed under the program include Millicent’s Academy Drive, French Street, History Avenue, Seventh Street, Second Street and Science Avenue; Beachport’s Fifth and Corigliano Streets; Kalangadoo’s Eliza and John streets, Factory Road and North-East Terrace; and Penola’s Bowden, Young, Portland and Arthur Streets.

Resealing work is also proposed for Delaneys Road near Millicent; Poonada, Whitefield and Burchard roads near Tantanoola, Maaoupe Road near Penola and the Old Kalangadoo-Penola Road.

Other works already completed under the program include footpaths at Kentish Place in Millicent, Somerville Street and the Millicent Road entrance in Beachport, and on Eyre Street at Southend.

Footpath work is also underway on Ridge Terrace in Millicent and Eliza Street in Southend.

Kerb and gutter work has been completed on Church and Portland streets in Penola; on Mount Gambier Road at Banks Street and Enderby Lane in Millicent.

Similar work is also underway on Mullin, Alleyne and Bonshor streets in Millicent.
