PENOLA High School students celebrated the end of their schooling lives with Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) scores announced this week.

The school’s top four out of nine students all received scores over 80 with Charlotte Neale taking out the top spot.

Charlotte received a score of 86 and said she was happy with the overall results following a tough year.

“Receiving this score means I should be able to get into the course I want to do,” Charlotte said.

“I am hoping to do a Bachelor of Arts and major in psychology but I haven’t decided on if I will do a double major or two minors and that will probably be along the lines of writing.”

She said psychology and writing was something she was always interested in studying since the beginning of high school.

“Both my mum and step-mum are social workers which I think has influenced me a little and also helped,” she said.

Charlotte said she was not interested in taking a gap year and looked forward to heading straight into the university lifestyle.

“I am excited about going straight into university and I think it will be good to go into a bigger population than Penola and experience new things,” she said.

Fellow student Tom Skeer also received a high score with 85.4.

“I am very happy about my score and I don’t know what I am going to do next year, I might go straight to university but I am unsure,” Tom said.

“I am wanting to study paramedics but unsure if I will get in so if I don’t I will do health science at Flinders University.

“Either way I am excited to move onto university and try new things in the city.”

Both students were excited about the future alongside the rest of Penola High School’s Year 12 students.
