Winners decided for mixed pairs

THE Robe Bowls Club’s mixed pairs championships were played under a different format this year – a round-robin tournament, with three games of 12 ends,.

Rob Lawrie and Judy Bermingham were the overall winners.

Both Division 2 and Division 3 pennant teams suffered losses to Penola, with Division 2 going down 48-39 and Division 3, 64 30.

In Division 2, Penola’s Judy Phillips, Pam Robinson, Helen Dawson and Judy Bermingham claimed a solid win over Gail Hetherington’s Robe team (15-25), while Meredith Hinze and her team claimed victory against Valma Jennings’ squad (33-14).

Division 2 still remain third on the overall ladder and are set to play at Port MacDonnell this week.

In Division 3 Robe’s Heather Lambert and team defeated Jan Fisk’s crew 41-13.

Meanwhile, Margaret Rowntree’s team also defeated Ann Moore’s team 23-17.

Division 3 sits second on the ladder and will face Naracoorte next round.

The Saturday Open pennant was played at Robe, with Division 1 up against Mount Gambier RSL Red, while Division 3 faced Port MacDonnell.

In Division 1, Robe was defeated by Port MacDonnell 57-86.

Peter Roachock’s team was defeated by Chris Waugh’s team 22-27, David Robinson’s team beaten by Deanne Wilkinsin’s team (15-28) and Harold Manton’s team was defeated by Neil Tobin’s team (20-31).

Division 3 won two rinks, but in the end still went down to Port MacDonnell 61-77.

Deane Nankivell’s side went down to Kel Butler’s team (12-40), Dean Woodward’s team defeated Terry Seiler’s team (22-18) and Ali Douglas’s team defeated Danny Gaunt’s team (27-19).

On December 18 a Christmas dinner and raffle will take place, while teams need to be submitted for the championships in January.
