MOUNT Gambier’s Returned and Services League (RSL) is taking a new direction with the leasing of its bar and bistro area within its Sturt Street facility.

President of the Mt Gambier RSL, Bob Sandow said the move would allow the organisation to do everything better.

“Patrons wont notice any change here but it will put it on a stable footing for the future by doing this,” he said referring to the meals and entertainment area of the RSL, “while we can increase our focus on veterans.”

“The hospitality industry is not a business that the RSL should be in,” Mr Sandow said.

“We need to devote more time to the veterans including those from what I call the modern conflicts being from Vietnam right through to now.

“They tend to fly under the radar a bit but we need to find them because they need help and we can help them.”

Mr Sandow said the traditional areas of the RSL, including the war museum and members area, would still be operated by the RSL.

New lessees Mark and Jami Lane took on the RSL’s bar and bistro area on November 15 and already have plans for the future designed to increase patronage to the facility, including a new menu beginning next Monday.

The Lanes have about 25 years of experience in the hospitality industry in Mount Gambier.
