Look at me

FLYING HIGH: Meg the Italian greyhound shows her skills at Hastings Cunningham Reserve.

“LOOK at me, how clever am I,” seven year old Italian greyhound Meg seems to say as she sails effortlessly over an obstacle on command from her owner, Sharon Mulshine, at the Blue Lake Obedience Dog Club’s second to last run for the year on Wednesday.

Sharon is one of about 95 members of the Club which will hold its last get together of the year this Sunday at Hastings Cunningham Reserve in Mount Gambier.

The last event will include trophy presentations for dogs and their handlers and the awarding of two life memberships.

Past president and head instructor Lea Clark-Sandercock said the club had been lucky through the pandemic but had been unable to hold its two major annual events being the Easter and October trials.

“We hope we’ll get back to those next year but we’ve been able to continue our training sessions each Wednesday and Sunday,” she said.

“We’re about teaching dogs to be obedient to their handlers; making these dogs great citizens of the community.”

Training sessions are expected to resume after the Christmas break on February 6.
