MOUNT Gambier resident Tammy Auld has taken over the top spot at the South Australian Forest Products Association (SAFPA) as the new chair.

Taking over from inaugural chair Keith Lamb, Ms Auld has spent the past two decades in the region working alongside the forestry industry.

Growing up in Melbourne, she studied forestry in the city prior to relocating to the Limestone Coast in 2000 where she worked as a graduate at Forestry SA.

Ms Auld has since married a local farmer and worked in a range of areas including forestry management.

“I am really passionate about all aspects of the forest industry, across all parts of South Australia,” Ms Auld said.

“People often forget about forestry but it is a major contributor to our regional and state economy and we want to and need to grow the forest estate to ensure we remain world class.”

Labelling the association as a great organisation, Ms Auld said she was happy to take on the position.

“SAFPA brings all of us in the forestry industry together and encourages the government to pay attention to the areas in need,” she said.

“We have a proactive industry across the board and help present solutions to the government, especially considering the discussion surrounding the water allocation plan.”

Ms Auld said she was proud to have been elected by her peers for the position especially considering the Timberlink’s CLT/GLT plant in Tarpeena and the recently approved Altus Renewables pellet plant.

“It is an exciting and challenging time for the sector and I look forward to working with the government, industry and our communities,” she said.
