Pasin supports KCA project

SUPPORTING HYDROGEN: Member for Barker Tony Pasin is supporting KCA's proposed hydrogen plant.

BARKER MP Tony Pasin has thrown his weight behind a proposed $70m hydrogen plant at Kimberly-Clark Australia’s (KCA) Millicent mill.

Last week The Border Watch revealed plans for the project that would provide KCA with ‘green’ energy to meet 10 per cent of its energy demand.

Mr Pasin said hydrogen is a flexible, safe, transportable and storable fuel that when used produces no carbon emissions.

“The Federal Government released a National Hydrogen Strategy in 2019, which sets out a vision for Australia to become a major global hydrogen producer by 2030,”Mr Pasin said.

“The Federal Government is investing more than $1.2 billion to accelerate the development of an Australian hydrogen industry through projects around Australia.

“While the Clean Hydrogen Industrial Hubs program is expected to be extremely competitive with the Federal Government receiving applications from all around Australia, KCA and PhosEnergy’s application has my full support.

“The proposal will not only benefit KCA but also the broader Limestone Coast community by freeing up capacity within the existing natural gas supply for other industrial uses.

“If developed this project will also mean that the Limestone Coast will share in the benefits associated with the development of an Australian hydrogen industry.”

Mr Pasin said nationally, clean hydrogen has the potential to directly support 16,000 jobs by 2050, plus an additional 13,000 jobs indirectly – where possible I want the Limestone Coast to benefit from that opportunity.
