MILLICENT will celebrate its 150th birthday this weekend with a range of activities.

The celebrations will be launched tonight at the Wattle Range Art Exhibition in the Millicent Gallery beginning at 6.30pm.

On Saturday, at the Millicent Library, people will be able to take a tour of Millicent as it appeared 100 years ago using virtual reality goggles.

The library will also be the start point for a children’s treasure hunt around the town from 10am.

At the Millicent Skate Park in the Domain, free learn-to-skate sessions will be held from 11am.

At noon, the first stage of an indigenous art work being created on footpath protuberances on the corner of Glen, Stuckey and Davenport Streets will be unveiled with a smoking ceremony.

From 1pm at the Millicent Swimming Lake a floating inflatable obstacle course will be available.

From 2.30pm in the Domain, children are invited to meet at the painted easels in the park to undertake a seek and find game.

The Rotunda Parklands will become the focus from 3pm with a twilight market while musicians will be playing, including a last performance by popular locals JB & Crowey.

Also in the parklands, a time capsule from the 125th celebrations will be opened and new documents will be reloaded for storage for another 25 years.

Local celebrities will be taking part in a cook-off in the RSL Hall carpark while movies will be screened in Jubilee Park from 5pm.

Lights Up is an annual event which will also be combined into the 150th and will include celebrations in the rotunda parklands including children’s games and a visit from Santa.

On Sunday the activities include a free open day at the Millicent Museum where activities will include vintage vehicle displays, pony and sulky rides, wagon restoration demonstrations and vintage children’s games.

Also on Sunday, an ‘Amazing Race’ around Millicent will involve teams of four to six people on foot solving puzzles and completing a variety of challenges. Call Rob Francis on 0408156676 to book a start time. This is a fundraiser for the Wattle Range Suicide Prevention Network.

Also, a skating competition will be held at the skate park in the Domain for much of Sunday.
