AN innovative nature playground was opened at Penola’s McCorquindale Park last weekend with children already enjoying the $50,000 structure.

The McCorquindale Park management committee received significant funding from a number of sponsors, Wattle Range Council and the South Australian Healthy Towns Challenge grant.

“We have been working on the playground for years and we have been able to sign off on everything that needed to be done in regards to the main playground while also securing extra funding for more activities for the younger children,” management committee member Josie Abbey said.

“We are hoping to have the extra sections of the playground done as soon as possible but it is proving difficult due to the high demand and pressures that our local builders and tradespeople are experiencing which has caused our project to be pushed back a bit.”

She said the project was able to go ahead due to ongoing support and commitment from the broader community.

“The community drive and commitment and support from sponsors, council and the community allows our facilities to improve across town,” Ms Abbey said.

“It has been years in the making to get to this stage and we are very excited that it was able to go ahead and the kids have absolutely loved it so far.

“It has really been a community project and we are so happy it is able to continue.”

Wattle Range Council Mayor Des Noll said elected members and the broader community as a whole acknowledged the hard work and dedication from the committee.

“The connection this playground provides for the community and the town is fantastic and we are proud to enhance and support towns to continue to evolve,” Mr Noll said.
