TENS of thousands of books will be on sale this weekend with the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Book Fair reinstated once again.

Hosted at the Mount Gambier City Hall, patrons will be able to pick up a bargain with secondhand books and DVDs for sale.

The event will be the major fundraiser for the community organisation following the closure of its weekly market last year.

Rotary Club of Mount Gambier Book Fair committee member Allan Richardson said he was excited to have the opportunity to once again interact with the broader community.

“A lot of people have been asking us when our next book fair will be and we usually try to hold two a year seeing as though the closure of our market took a bit of fundraising away from us,” Mr Richardson said.

“Now we are looking at other ways we can raise money for the community and the book fair is one but we also have a few other ideas in the pipeline.”

Mr Richardson said the club had received fantastic support from the broader community with multiple donations with committee members having to turn away donations after receiving too many.

“The book fair is not just about raising money, it is also about the encouragement of reading in younger people, especially children,” he said.

“We will have a large number of children’s books for very cheap and we are hoping that will enable them to read a bit more.

“And although it is going to be held on one of the show days, we are hoping that people will come along either before or after they attend the show.”

The book fair will be open from 9am until 4pm on the Saturday and again from 9am until 3pm on the Sunday.

All entrants must donate a gold coin upon arrival with eftpos payments available for purchasing.
