A WINNING bid at a recent Mount Gambier Racing Club fundraiser resulted in three local community groups receiving a generous donation after the prize was used to hold a larger fundraising event.

Steve Bell, local MP Troy Bell, Milton Bignell, Peter Creek, Al Lamond and Mark Somerfield made a successful bid for a lamb on the spit and drinks package at an auction event at the Mount Gambier Racing Club.

The group felt the prize could benefit a larger section of the community so they approached Bill Burr from the Green Lakes Golf Club.

As a result, the prize was used for dinner attended by 60 people.

This event raised $1200.

The money was split between three local community groups; Mount Gambier Riding for the Disabled, Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group, and the Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group.

Natalie Zwar from Mount Gambier Riding for the Disabled said the donation would be used to build a ramp for the riders which would make it easier for them to mount and dismount the horses.

The Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group and the Mount Gambier Breast Cancer Awareness Group said the donation was timely with both organisations having their awareness months during September and October.

“I was more than happy to support such a generous initiative which ultimately benefited three charity groups in our region,” said Bill Burley.
