Mount Gambier man releases autobiography

NEW BOOK LAUNCH: Mount Gambier's Graham Greenwood prepares to release his 13th book.

MOUNT Gambier’s Graham Greenwood will release his autobiography at the end of the month while also reaching the milestone of his 13th book.

The autobiography, called ‘My Story’, will take the reader through various stages of his life – including 57 years in newspapers where he went from the bottom to the top after beginning at The Border Watch in 1963 as a printing apprentice.

It also tells the story of Mr Greenwood’s journey through his newspaper career, progressing to a typesetter then into journalism, sports editor, editor, manager, board director and board chairman of the former The Border Watch.

Mr Greenwood tells how he always wanted to write and be a reporter. Despite average school grades, the cards fell his way allowing him to realise his dream as he moved into journalism and editing various newspapers.

The book also includes some of his sporting achievements, successes as a player and coach in cricket, baseball and basketball and highlights how his passion for writing about sport began and how it later led into other areas of newspaper journalism, writing, producing and editing newspapers.

His story also deals with his private life, the torment of two failed marriages, bringing up a son as a single parent and the challenges and satisfaction that this brought to his life and how it defined his future.

‘My Story’ will be launched at the Mount Gambier Golf Club on October 31 at 2pm.

A meet the author session will be held at Hallmont Estate on November 9 at 10am with another scheduled at the Woodland Grove community centre at 2pm the same day.

A book signing will be available at all three sessions for those purchasing a book.

Books are for sale from November 1 at the Mount Gambier Golf Club or the Woodlands Grove and Hallmont Estate main offices.

The sale price of the book is $30 with $10 from every book sold at Woodlands or Hallmont donated to Foodbank while $10 from every book sold at the Mount Gambier Golf Club will be made to the club’s ladies’ new toilet project.

Also, the Mount Gambier Library will hold an in-conversation evening with Mr Greenwood on November 16 at 7pm.
