PENOLA High School students are willing to risk it all as they gear up for the Big Freeze fundraiser held at the school today.

Organised as a school project by Year 11 student Amelia Henry students and teachers alike will dress in their favourite football colours to raise funds for Motor Neuron Disease.

According to the Fight MND foundation throughout the past several years the Big Freeze events held across the nation has raised over $14m collectively.

Ms Henry said she decided to organise the fundraiser following community members across Penola experiencing the effects of the disease.

“For one of my subjects at school we had to organise an event and I know there have been students effected by motor neuron disease so I thought it would be a good opportunity to raise more awareness around the disease,” Ms Henry said.

“I hope that we get to raise more awareness around it through the event but also raise funds to show community support and let everyone know that it is a disease that does effect people.”

Ms Henry said she was excited to host the lunchtime event and looked forward to teachers and students alike getting involved.

“My fellow students seem to be excited because they get to dress up in their football colours and it is a lunch time activity so I think it will attract a lot of attention,” she said.

“I am also looking forward to seeing the teachers getting involved and already they have shown a lot of support through purchasing beanies for the event.”

The event will be held at the high school today during lunchtime with a sausage sizzle to follow.

Fight MND beanies will also be on sale at the school for $20 each with all proceeds going towards the foundation.
