BEEF and sheep producers from across the Limestone Coast and western Victoria were recently given insight into the latest national trends as part of a business event in the Blue Lake city.

Hosted by agribusiness banking specialist Rabobank, the event – held at the Commodore On The Park – featured Sydney-based Rabobank animal proteins analyst Angus Gidley-Baird.

Producers heard the latest outlook for the sheep, wool and cattle markets, as well as some of the longer-term trends set to impact the sector.

Mr Gidley-Baird spoke on the tight beef and sheep markets and how the demand for protein had pushed livestock prices to their current highs.

He also spoke on a number of transitions taking place in the sector, in particular, the sector’s transitioning out of the pandemic, its reduced reliance on China (notably in beef), and the industry’s move towards sustainability.
