Business association to host general meeting

AS the Millicent Business Community Association (MBCA) prepares for its annual general meeting at the Somerset Hotel at 7pm on Tuesday, its chairman Lee Morgan believes there is an opportunity for the organisation to look back over the past thirty years of its existence.

Mr Morgan believes the MBCA needs to examine the current COVID-19 situation and its effect on businesses and where the association needs to place itself in moving the Millicent township and surrounding areas forward for the next three months, next year and beyond.

“The MBCA clearly has to sharpen its objective of cost-effective marketing and to attract visitors to live, set up business, work and to play,” Mr Morgan said.

“We have all the elements here to flourish – we are between two capital cities, we are close to the coast, we have premium agricultural land, we have water and vast natural resources, a strong renewable energy sector and plenty of tourism potential.

“The MBCA recognises that it has to be an independent voice for business and over the last two years we have aligned ourselves with Business SA, we have increased our website and social media presence, as well as organise significant events such as the Outstanding Business Awards and the Millicent Lights Up Event.

“However, it is time for a “freshen up” and we are eager to bring new faces onto the committee and hopefully into leadership positions.

“It is surprising how opportunities arise by people becoming involved.”
