Suspicious fire near Nangwarry

A WATER-bombing aircraft was called on to extinguish a suspicious fire near Nangwarry on Sunday afternoon, taking flight as the temperature hovered above 30 degrees.

Limestone Coast Police yesterday confirmed it was investigating the fire, which ignited in scrub around 4pm just north of Nangwarry.

The fire was located about 700 metres west of the Riddoch Highway and had burnt about 50 metres by 40 metres of grass and scrub before it was extinguished by fire crews, which were supported by the CFS water-bombing aircraft.

Crime scene officers attended the scene to help with the investigation.

The cause of the fire has been deemed as undetermined and the investigation remains ongoing.

Police are asking anyone who may have been travelling on the Riddoch Highway near Yeates Road just before 4pm who witnessed any suspicious behavior, or who has dash cam footage, to report it online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
