Sneak peak inside new store

KENNETT Builders – which was awarded the ALDI construction contract – yesterday gave The Border Watch a sneak peak inside the sprawling new ALDI Warehouse.

Site manager Rob Hann said the site had been a hive of activity in recent weeks with a myriad of contractors on the site.

Conceding it had been a tight deadline, he revealed he was pleased to see the project come to fruition.

“Everything is on track for the grand opening next Wednesday,” Mr Hann said.

He said the shop fittings were continuing to be installed this week, along with the finishing touches to carpark line-marking and landscaping.

“ALDI will come in next week and will stock the store,” Mr Hann said.

Mount Gambier City Council granted development approval for the Coles Supermarket and specialty shops in mid August.

“Council has also received recent advice that it is likely that construction work will commence on site in 2020,” a council spokesperson said.

“It is possible that some site offices and temporary huts will be placed on site before Christmas 2019.”
