RECYCLING PREPARATIONS: Library events and promotions trainee Matilda Thompson and programs team leader Kristi Leamey prepare items for the library clothes swap as part of National Recycling Week.

MOUNT Gambier residents will have the opportunity to replenish their wardrobes for free with the inaugural Mount Gambier Library Clothes Swap.

The library is calling for donations for Monday’s event, with residents able to provide up to five items per person for the swap by dropping them at the facility this weekend during business hours.

For every item donated, residents will receive a token which can be used to obtain a new item of clothing on Monday, with the library open an extra hour to allow participants to attend after work.

“Now is the time to go through wardrobes and donate any items that you have not worn in a while,” library programs team leader Kristy Leamey said.

Items donated must be in good, clean condition and can be anything from handbags to shoes, shorts and jumpers.

Held in conjunction with the event will be a free screening of the 2040 documentary at The Riddoch and Main Corner Complex, to be followed by a discussion led by council’s environmental sustainability officer Aaron Izzard.

The documentary highlights director Damon Gameau’s journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if communities embrace the best practice solutions to improve the planet and shifted them into mainstream practice.

The screening will occur at 6.30pm in the dress circle at the Main Corner with a second screening held on November 24 at 1pm.

The second screening will then be followed by the children’s recycled art competition held at the library.
