Vehicle purchase to drive tourism

MOUNT Gambier City Council will spend $34,000 on a vehicle to support its tourism and visitor information staff and promote the district outside of council’s boundaries.

The Hyundai IMAX van will be wrapped in Mount Gambier specific graphics and will be used at council promotional events.

Council tourism and economic development manager Donna Foster said staff were “ecstatic” with the investment.

“We are all very excited about the vehicle as it is going to be a part of the overall branding for the Mount Gambier region,” Ms Foster said.

“The van will allow us to be more mobile and extend our branding to outer-regional areas.

“We will now be able to take the Mount Gambier brand everywhere.”

Ms Foster said the van would be used as a pop-up information centre during major events to draw more visitors to the Blue Lake city.

“This will give us an opportunity to take our message out and about as well as make it available for people to come into town and learn what we are all about here in Mount Gambier,” she said.

“We can now comfortably travel to events within the Limestone Coast and other centres making them within our grasp.

“Mount Gambier is a beautiful and natural place and we want people to see the van and want to visit here,” Ms Foster said.

“It will allow for multiple usage and flexibility.”

Ms Foster said council’s tourism budget line was not “unlimited”, believing the van was an effective way to use the marketing funds.

“We are now capable to have pop-up points around the region and be more engaged with our visitors and community,” she said.
