Community to have say on recreation hub name

WHILE it has been known by several different names during its initial stages, the time has come to officially name Mount Gambier’s community and recreation centre.

City Council has foreshadowed a community engagement period through its Have Your Say website, with a survey used to help determine its formal name.

A draft of the survey – yet to be endorsed by elected members – was presented at Monday night’s regional sport and recreation centre committee meeting, which flagged giving local residents the opportunity to name the facility.

Once closed, the committee will then finalise five names to be taken back to community consultation where residents will have the chance to vote.

In addition to online feedback, council community wellbeing general manager Barbara Cernovksis and community development and engagement officer Heidi Gajic revealed they had door-knocked residential areas within the aquatic centre proximity to inform residents on the current progress of the centre proposal.

Elected members will discuss the naming process further through council’s standing committee structure.
