A YOUNG girl has died and a boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a fatal crash between a car and a truck near Mumbannar on Wednesday afternoon.

Victorian Police were called to the scene on the Princes Highway – around 15km from the South Australian border – at around 7.45pm Victorian time.

They located a car – carrying a 16-year-old girl, 11-year-old boy, 42-year-old woman and a 33-year-old man – which had collided with a truck.

The 16-year-old girl died on the scene and the other three passengers were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

The 11-year-old boy was flown to the Royal Children’s Hospital and remains in a serious condition.

A 38-year-old truck driver was not injured in the crash and is assisting the authorities with enquiries.

South Australian emergency services assisted the Victorian authorities with the incident.

The exact cause of the collision is yet to be determined at this stage.
