Foundation to provide support regional charitable projects

THE Stand Like Stone Foundation will deliver almost $50,000 to charitable projects across the Limestone Coast region in its latest round of Small Grants funding.

A number of projects will share in $49,426, bringing the total amount given through the foundation’s Small Grants program to $261,000.

Those successful in the South East include the Penola Pastoral, Agricultural and Horticultural Society, Penola and District Medical Support Group, Kalangadoo Kindergarten, the Beachport Surf Life Saving Club and the Millicent Flexible Learning Centre.

Other grant recipients included Mount Gambier High School, Thumb Print Workshop Inc, the National Trust of SA Naracoorte, Allendale East Area School, Mount Gambier Toy Library, the Mount Gambier Community Christmas Day Lunch, Naracoorte Lucindale Community Care Network and the Keith and District Hospital.

Foundation chair Bill DeGaris said the impact of many years of donations to the foundation was finally being realised.

“We now have over $4m in trust for the Limestone Coast and this means that Stand Like Stone is now a reliable source of funding for local projects and scholarships,” he said.

“Local people understand that Stand Like Stone is their charity and every dollar donated will stay in this region to benefit our local communities.

“We are always looking for more support, as the more that we have in trust, the more that we have to give to the region.

“It is like a community savings fund, where donations are invested to earn income, which is then granted to the local community.”

Since its inception Stand Like Stone has delivered benefits of over $1.5m to the local community including $631,895 in grants, $123,685 in scholarships, $422,650 in Back to School vouchers (in partnership with Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal), $252,500 Stay at School vouchers (in partnership with Wyatt Trust) and leveraged a further $92,653 in external grants into the region.

Next month the foundation will open applications for the OneFortyOne Community Capacity Building Grants program, offering a $50,000 funding pool for individual grants of up to $20,000 for charitable projects.

Guidelines and application forms will be available from the Stand Like Stone website.
