Teen pays price for drunken night out

A YOUNG Mount Gambier man who assaulted two security guards at a licensed premises in Mount Gambier has received a $900 fine for the offending.

Drew Cy Joseph Hudson, 19, appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court to be sentenced for two counts of assault.

The prosecution said the defendant was “drunk” in a licensed premises and when security officers attempted to remove him, he became agitated.

Hudson threw punches in the direction of officers, however none of the attempted strikes landed.

However, an errant elbow struck one security guard in the head.

He was eventually restrained, removed from the premises and placed on the ground while security waited for police to arrive.

When Hudson was lifted to his feet, he punched the other security guard in the face, splitting his lip.

Magistrate Teresa Anderson said the assaults were of a serious nature.

“Security officers already have a difficult job to do and they ought not to have to deal with violence from intoxicated people,” Magistrate Anderson said.

Hudson accepted he had drank too much on the evening of the assaults and needed to refrain from drinking excessively in the future.

Magistrate Anderson warned the defendant what would happen if he committed drunken assaults in the future.

“You need to understand that if you come to the attention of the police for violence again you will likely be facing a term of imprisonment.

Hudson was convicted and fined $900 for the offending.
