LIMESTONE Coast primary schools and early learning centres are set for a greener future, with applications now open for the first round of the Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants program.
“The program was funded through Woolworths Bag for Good sales launched on June 20 and would not have been possible without the support from surrounding South East customers,” group manager Chad Hamnett said.
“The Bag for Good sales have raised over half a million dollars towards the program, which will help young Australians be hands-on with gardening and recycling projects.
“It is fantastic to hear the funds will be put back into the community hopefully inspiring the next generation of environmental champions to create a greener future for Australia.”
The grant is expected to bring sustainable practices to the Limestone Coast area with suggestions including habitat restoration, vegetable gardens and compost projects.
“We want to remind customers that if their Bag for Good ever gets damaged, we will replace it for free no matter when you bought it,” Mr Hamnett said.
Landcare Australia chief executive Dr Shane Norrish also believes the program encourages young people to play an active role in ensuring the safe future of the environment.
“We are pleased to open applications for the Junior Landcare grants program and are excited for it fund hundreds of worthwhile projects in our schoolyards,” he said.
At least 500 of the $1000 grants are on offer, with applications closing November 23.
