Thefts spark warning

MOUNT Gambier Police are advising local car owners to lock unattended vehicles following a series of thefts in the city.

Since the beginning of September there have been 18 offences reported to police of interference with motor vehicles in the Mount Gambier area.

Of those reported incidents, 14 have resulted in the theft of property from vehicles.

On 12 occasions, thieves gained entry to the vehicle through an unlocked entry point.

On three other occasions items were stolen from the outside of the vehicle.

The offending is widespread across Mount Gambier and usually occurring in the afternoon or overnight.

South Australia Police promotes a “close, conceal and lock” approach to prevent theft from motor vehicles.

Car owners are urged to close their vehicle windows, conceal valuables and lock the doors and windows.

Limestone Coast Police urge every vehicle owner to take responsibility for the security of their vehicles and possessions.

If members of the public see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles they are urged to call for police assistance on 131 444.

If any person has information about those responsible for similar offending they should report details online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au or call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
