THE Border Watch donated 10pc of advertising revenue from a recent feature to the Limestone Coast Prostate Cancer Support Group this week.

The $320 donation was accepted by group member Richard Harry, who said the money will “stay local”.

“We will bank this cheque for now and the money will eventually benefit the local community in some way,” Mr Harry said.

“For a while we have intended to buy specialist equipment for the hospital to save people having to travel to Adelaide for biopsies, but as it turns out we don’t have enough visiting specialists to make that worthwhile.

“We raised $20,000 at a recent fundraising event and I will be chatting to health services director Paul Bullen about the best way to spend the money to support locals.

“We do also raise money for prostate cancer research, which ultimately benefits everyone.”

Mr Harry – who is a prostate cancer survivor – said the group would continue to promote prostate cancer awareness.

“More men are diagnosed with prostate cancer than women with breast cancer, but men just don’t talk about it,” he said.

“We try to reduce the stigma and promote awareness.”
