Vocalists take centre stage for showcase

THE 2018 Limestone Coast Choral and Vocal Showcase will hit the Wehl Street Theatre stage this week showcasing the talents of South East youth.

Over the 14 years of the event, adjudicators from around Australia have come to Mount Gambier to share their knowledge and skills with performers and written encouraging constructive comments to help guide performers on their singing journey.

This year, Charmaine Jones-Devasagayam, a highly sought after educator in vocal/choral and performance techniques nationwide will head to the Blue Lake city to judge the competition.

Ms Jones-Devasagayam’s vocal abilities and musical ventures are described as eclectic as the variety of industry greats she has had the pleasure of working with.

Described as Adelaide’s “vocal darling”, her vocal range and timbres are as unique as her repertoire.

Producer of critically acclaimed ensemble Gospo Collective, a gospel-esque choral experience unlike anything else the Southern Hemisphere has to offer, Jones-Devasagayam also conducts St Mary’s College and Pembroke School jazz choirs, regular prize winners at the prestigious Generations in Jazz competition.

Songs covering a wide variety of styles will be presented by the go-getting under-10 age group through to the more mature experienced performers all hoping to receive a selection of the medals, trophies and monetary awards on offer.

Significant awards are made possible due to the generosity of local businesses and private supporters of the event.

The showcase starts on Wednesday at 7pm with a number of well-trained and well-disciplined school choirs opening the event.

Solo and duet sections will run throughout three daily session Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Sessions will start at 10am, 2pm and 7pm.

Tickets are available at the door for all sessions.
